#9 – Color Terminology
Tinting occurs when white is added to a color. The result is called a tint of the original hue. The opposite of tinting is shading. Adding black to a hue will create a shade of that hue. Tints and shades are shown in various stages for all of the corner colors as well as the line of gray that runs through the middle of the COLORCUBE. Complementary colors are two colors that "combine to make gray". When mixed together they cancel each other out, so to speak. You can easily find complements with the COLORCUBE. Once the color you wish to complement is located, simply trace through the center of the model to arrive at the color that is directly opposite to your starting point. These two colors will be complementary. |
